Greenhouse

March 07, 2011

So hard to believe that it has only been two weeks and such progress has been made inside my little greenhouse.

I am just so amazed at the miracle that comes from planting seeds.  I mean have you ever really wondered how they appeared and what they went through/underwent to become a BIG tree?  Or does it even matter to you that they even exist?  Don't deceive yourself as it is largely do to plants that there is an adequate balance of oxygen in the atmosphere that allows you to breathe.  Thus keeping you from being poisoned by the excessive amounts of carbon monoxide!  We owe a great deal to plants for being able to live a comfortable life.  Not to mention the fact that they contain vitamins and minerals that are essential for us to live.

Ever wonder how something so small knows how to take on the shape of a tree or a tomato??  \Although many of us say the "seed" produced the tree/fruit....that really isn't so.  If it was, that would imply the seed could think and had a brain....we all know that's not the case.  It is God who implanted the knowledge and system inside every seed to give it the ability to develop into a plant.  Every single seed cast onto the earth is enveloped in God's knowldege, with which it germinates and grows.

So go grow a miracle of your own today and make the world a better place!

Feb 22

It's only been a few days but radishes are popping up everywhere in the greenhouse!  I actually planted red, pink and white radishes...love variety!  The red ones were actually a "fast" growing heirloom radish and it is living up to it's name!

Pac Choy is also making an appearance (new to me this year)

And so is my European Lettuce Mix and a "stir fry" mix that I'm trying new this year

The greenhouse is starting to come to life again :-).  There are seedlings sprouted and growing stronger with each new day trying to make thier way to the garden when the soil is ready.

Lettuce, swiss chard, kale and many herbs are already in full swing!  I've decided this year to take out the boxes I had around the bottom last year and just place large bags of Organic Soil (2 cubic ft) and plant in them.  I experimented on the outside with this way to plant/grow last year and it was a success with peppers and tomatoes.

If you are wanting to try a little gardening but don't want all the weeding and such....purchase a large bag of organic garden soil, decide where to put it (a sunny spot), punch some holes in the bottom for drainage and root growth and then cut a large square around the top (leaving edges to hold soil in place) and loosen soil just like you would in a garden and plant..just like you would in a garden.

Jan 2011

This is going to be another exciting year in our greenhouse gardening world :-).  We are in the process of re-locating the greenhouse in the hopes that it will receive more sun.

Stay tuned........

Meanwhile, why not go to our Garden Page 2011 tab on this blog and see what's going on outside of the greenhouse.

The greenhouse seedlings are starting to make their appearance.  Signs of radishes and lettuce are popping up...spinach, scallions, carrots and beets are still sleeping :-).

A few days ago I planted some seed in the greenhouse in the hopes of a winter crop of radishes, lots of lettuce greens, green onion, beets and carrots.  Herbs were also planted (basil, oregano, sage, mints..etc..many of these herbs already exist..just started more).
